Burundian coffee greatness is taking the stage at this year’s edition of World of Coffee in Boston.
Burundi is a land with great coffee tradition. Its high altitude, thousands hills, volcanic soils, & abundant rains offer the ideal conditions for the production of exceptional & very exotic coffee. With its excellent agro-ecology for specialty coffee (many hills in high lands, altitude from 1200-2000m, coffee plantation alongside forests) Burundi produces only Arabica Bourbon Varietal. The Coffee is in fact grown in small family-owned farms. The Harvest is hand picking and cherries are delivered to the nearest coffee washing station owned either by a Cooperative of farmers, a private investor or public owned wet mills. The harvest occurs from Mid-March to Mid-July while dry processing and export take place from August till December.
As the 2019 WoC portrait country, Café du Burundi will capture the attention of roasters, importers, baristas, sustainability investors, and consumers, by showcasing the quality, diversity and social impact of the coffees cultivated in this magic and diverse country.
The quality and diversity of Burundian coffees is the result of a combination of a privileged geographical location and the work, care and passion of more than 600,000 Burundian coffee growing families.
